'urban farmhouse' dinner party

a fun, senseless way to celebrate..... pigs i suppose, they seemed to dominate. which is pretty funny because i was quite into pigs as a teenager, i had a huge collection of them. rather than thinking them disgusting edible creatures, i thought they were quite cute and friendly!

we belong to a small dinner party club that attempts to meet on a regular basis. there are only two rules to it. the host|hostess for that particular evening do everything and it has to be THEMED! guess who thought up that rule (actually i came up with both of them) but if you know me well, you know i am all about adding themes to celebrations! (i am sure i was supposed to be an event planner!)

after Bill's awesome invite he created, i had to come up with a menu. my goal was traditional farm food with a very different flair.

the fun part, decorating! Bill had a great idea of turning a couple of Michael's awesome New York (urban) shots into art with a farm animal touch.

pig in a park.

chickens rushing through Grand Central Station.

retro|farmy table setting.

it turned out more farmy than it did urban... i would've had to buy new dishes and such... it was fun though and bright!

appetizer (fodder) bisquits filled with bacon, tomatoes & cheese. simple and yummy!

i served them in a cardboard fruit crate. here you can also see i did try to dress 'urban farmhouse' style. i admit...i like dressing up too...

here are all of our wonderful guest sitting down to first course. a tomato onion salad along with very hearty cornbread that was cooked in a tin can.

it was lots of fun and a good time for this former High School FFA member. we played a farm trivia game (that everyone complained was too hard). i thought it was fun, hearing all of their crazy wrong answers. we now all know what is shaped like a corkscrew on a pig (other than his tail).

Laura's Adventure!

Laura had a fantastic time in Alaska and has given me permission the share a little about it here.

The Confidence is where she lived for almost 3 weeks.

happy couple excited to see each other again. the weeks tend to drag out when your boyfriend is a commercial fisherman!

Laura loved the natural beauty. that was her favorite part of the trip, seeing all the different animals in their habitat. eagles, whales, otters, seals, etc... she has grown to love nature so much.

getting ready to catch some bait.

she admits, there were times it was really really cold. lots of layers seems to work well!

this picture is taken from the skiff, they are laying the net. then towing The Confidence away in order to tighten the net and pul it in.

it all really works in my mind well.... i've watched it a lot on videos and such. i find it pretty fascinating. i am so thankful she got to have this unique experience!

sometimes there is more in the net than you are looking for. he looks pretty crabby.

sweet night shot.

when they were not fishing, they would spend time goofing off on one of the thousands of islands that lie in the Alaskan waters.

fun times. (o:

a beautiful waterfall that flows right into

the ocean.

more down time, playing in trees...

this is a little lovely that Laura admits she brought home. i suppose either someone who's bigger dinner or a keepsake.

this is actually what they were fishing for. first they would catch the bait. then they'd put the bait in these cage like things in the sea filled with the kelp. then the bait lays the eggs all over the kelp and that is what you see here. this is caviar the kelp is completely covered by it. looks kinda gross but apparently it's something that sells quite well!

where the nets are stored when they are not n use. right on the deck. big nets!

i love this picture, she looks like the princess of the boat to me. which i am guessing she most likely was!

i am so glad she had a great time. it really makes me want to see Alaska someday. i'd love to try and get up there this summer when she is there.

she is headed back for salmon season. this time she will not be working|living on the boat. she will get a land job and share an apartment with a friend (who's dad is the skipper of the Confidence). then Wil & Kris are relocating to a temp summer position in North Carolina. after that it's either CA or Portland (fingers crossed) for a whole new adventure for them. Heidi & Joe's baby son is due early July. Michael... not sure, i know he is headed for a big change, he has left Disney )o: maybe he and Claire just need to backpack Europe for the summer then decide. they both seem to have an itch for adventure!

if you wonder if all this transition causes this mom stress i can tell you, YES it DOES! at the same time i am so thankful. i read through these blogs and i see blessing poured out on all of our lives in so many ways. what a gift.

NY Men

well with Laura's return from Alaska this week we have our camera back. it has some great pictures of my boys (Mikey, Wil, Joe & Bill) in NYC celebrating Michael's 21st birthday. there are many great shots of the sights and fun times they had. i am just going to put a few personal ones up that i really like of them!

i just thought this was a great quote, seemed to fit the occasion well.

they spent their 1st night being wowed by Time Square. it really is amazing.

getting ready to go... someplace. i like this shot because it show's Wil with 'the binder'. i had created a complete itinerary for them and put Wil in charge of it. i knew he was the man i could trust!

yummy! why oh why can't we get pizza like that here!

there must be at least 15 pictures on the roll of Michael taking a picture. i love this shot, it is very Mikey to me.

and last i just wanted to show you what some of the pictures you end up with are when you are married to a graphic designer. they tend to be obsessed with type!

i hope they had a great trip and hope we get to do more things like this in our life. i adore my family!
